What we built: https://whalewines.eu
Where we started
- Went through the brand materials, the positioning, and the core idea: premium wines from South Africa.
- Reviewed winery sites across Europe and South Africa for structure, presentation, and the paths visitors take through them.
- Picked the three identity elements the site had to carry: the brand’s penguins as a symbol of the region, vineyard landscapes, and the pastel and wine tones that read as premium.
Site architecture
- Built a multi-page structure: about the brand, wine collections, the winery, distribution, and contacts.
- Gave every wine line its own card with a description, region, tasting notes, alcohol content, and a photo.
- Set up content management so the client’s team can add new wines on their own.
Design and animation
- Created a visual style around wine tones, natural textures, and South African imagery.
- Worked the penguins into the design as part of the brand’s symbolism, without letting them take over.
- Added light animation and micro-interactions so the site feels current rather than static.
- Designed responsive layouts for desktop, tablet, and mobile.
Content
- Laid out blocks covering the brand’s story, its growing region, and what makes the winery distinct.
- Structured the copy around quality, origin, and what sets these wines apart.
- Added CTA blocks for partners and distributors.
Tech stack
- WordPress
- Multilingual support (via a plugin)
- Responsive markup
- Site type: premium multi-page site
